How to remove yourself from HireRight

Site

Difficulty
Hard — HireRight states it is an FCRA consumer reporting agency and that the CCPA and other state privacy laws do not typically apply to its background screening business, so deletion requests generally do not reach background-report data; the FCRA gives access and dispute rights instead

What they publish

Employment background reports compiled for employers (including public-record information such as criminal history), plus active database files kept on candidates; no public profiles

Removing yourself, step by step

0 of 5 done
  1. To see what they hold, request a copy of your report or database file via https://support.hireright.com/en-US/articles/request-a-copy-of-my-background-report-or-testing-results
  2. For an expungement, record sealing or non-disclosure order, send it to consumers@hireright.com (the policy says not to send these to the privacy address)
  3. For a state privacy-law request (marketing data, opt-out of sale/sharing), use http://www.hireright.com/u-s-state-consumer-privacy-rights-request-form, email HireRightPrivacy@hireright.com, or call 866-906-5001, with the identifiers and ID listed under Verification
  4. To appeal a response, use the same channels and state clearly that it is an appeal

How they confirm it

Full name, all addresses, email addresses, phone numbers and employers they might have on file; for a disclosure, correction or deletion request, a clear picture of a government-issued ID (ID number and photo may be covered, name and address may not). Authorized agents must be named in writing with a mailing address

If they ignore you

FCRA — complaint to the CFPB or the FTC ; state attorney general. Not in the CA data broker registry as of 2026-10-05

Data brokers re-list. Check again in about 60 days.

Re-listing risk for this site: Low — there is no public listing; data enters through an employer-ordered background check
