How to remove yourself from Cision

Site
cision.com
Category
B2B
Difficulty
Medium — the form is simple, but two of the three published rights-form links are dead and the brand sprawl means one request may not cover Brandwatch, PR Newswire or Bulletin
Time to process45 days for Copy and Right-to-Know requests — privacy.cision.com/additional-information-for-californian-consumers: "We will respond to your Copy and Right to Know requests within 45 days"; for database removal the influencer notice says only "we will process your request as soon as possible"

What they publish

The "Media Database" and "Cision Social Influencer Database", "repositories of information (and in particular contact information) relating to influencers like you" — journalists, freelancers, bloggers and social-media influencers — sold to "more than 100,000 public relations and marketing professionals". The California notice lists as collected and sold: "a real name, alias, postal address, unique personal identifier, email address, social media handles, work history and education history", plus audio/visual and "Profiles and Inferences". The registry row: "name, email address" of "journalists, influencers and online authors who have made their information publicly available."

Owner / network: Cision US Inc., Legal & Privacy Dept., 300 S Riverside Plaza, Suite 300, Chicago, IL 60606; "our products and services operate under a number of different brands, including Cision, Brandwatch, PR Newswire and Bulletin" (privacy policy). CPPA registry has two rows with the same DPO contact dpo@cision.com: "Cision" (www.cision.com, 866-639-5087) and "Crimson Hexagon" trading as Brandwatch (registry.csv fetched 2026-10-10). Platinum Equity ownership .

Removing yourself, step by step

0 of 6 done
  1. Go to https://www.cision.com/contact-us/update-add-media-profile/, choose "Remove an existing profile", fill first name, last name, email and media outlet, tick the acknowledgement, pass the reCAPTCHA, submit.
  2. In the same sitting email Privacy@cision.com (the influencer notice: "if at any time you want us to take you out of the Databases altogether please email us at Privacy@cision.com") — name every brand: Cision Media Database, Social Influencer Database, PR Newswire, Brandwatch, Bulletin — and ask for deletion plus opt-out of sale.
  3. California residents may instead use the Do-Not-Sell routes the notice lists: "email Privacy@cision.com, call toll-free on 877-297-8921". Do not rely on the notice's "Clicking here" link (cision.service-now.com — the host does not resolve) or the privacy policy's "Submit a Data Subject Request" OneTrust link ("The requested content is no longer available").
  4. If nothing happens, call 877-297-8921 (privacy toll-free) or the general line 1-877-297-8912, 8 AM–5 PM CT.
  5. EU/UK residents: cite the influencer notice (GDPR; "Journalist and Influencer hotline: +44 (0)20 7074 2556"); the notice names the ICO as the UK regulator.
  6. Re-check every quarter if you publish under your own byline — the database is rebuilt from public sources.

How they confirm it

Media-profile form: reCAPTCHA plus a mandatory acknowledgement "I understand that the details provided will be used to update or create a profile on Cision database, sister companies and affiliates, which is accessed by our PR clients". California rights requests: "we will take steps to attempt to verify your identity. We will seek to match the information in your request to the personal information we maintain about you ... we may ask you to submit additional information, use identity verification servic[es]". The 2026-08-14 claim of a "Confirm Email" link after submission appears on no fetched page .

If they ignore you

CCPA complaint to the CPPA (Cision and Brandwatch are both registrants; registry contact dpo@cision.com); Illinois AG (Chicago headquarters); UK ICO or the relevant EU supervisory authority for EU/UK residents.

Data brokers re-list. Check again in about 60 days.

Re-listing risk for this site: High — the stated purpose is "To create a repository of data regarding influencers (the media database) from publicly available websites and third parties", so a working journalist's byline will be re-collected; no suppression commitment is published
